Theme Thursday's challenge this week is chalks. I used a swirly stamp for the background (on top of the french dictionary page) and my Versamark stamp pad. A couple of different colors of chalks were swiped over that. The girl image is from Digital Collage Sheets.23 November 2007

Gothic Arch - Friends
This week's theme for the Gothic Arch Challenge is "friends". I used watercolors to paint the sky/ocean, and I used mulberry paper for the sand. The shells along the bottom are from a LunaGirl collage sheet, and the image is from a magazine.

Theme Thursday - One

Theme Thursday's challenge this week was "one". The only rule was that the art piece had to have the number one on it somewhere. I really enjoy this challenge site because you can make any size art you want - ATC, 4x4, 1x1, tag - whatever!

Gothic Arch - Birds
This week's Gothic Arch challenge theme is bird(s). The bird image is a rubber stamp from Asta Arts. The image of the girl is from the 'net, but I can't recall the site although it was a free source. The background is a page from an old book I got at the thrift store. I drew all the other elements by hand, except for the word "bluebird" which was stamped. I used watercolors to color in the background elements, and I used gouache on the girl's dress and pink acrylic paint for the dress details. I was looking for a storybook feel for the piece. I'm just barely getting brave enough to post my work that contains hand-drawn elements.

Altered Journal Pages - Ocean Theme

I haven't had a chance to do much art lately. I had a busy week, so my art time suffered. These are pages I did for an altered journal RR I'm in. The pages will be front (top photo) and back (bottom) and will mount with two holes punched in the top of the pages. The image of the girl in the top photo is from a fruit crate label that I got out of one of my Dover books. I used gouache paints to change the color of her bathing suit to blue because that the color theme for this journal was ocean blues/green/white. The woman in the bottom photo is from a free source on the net (can't recall the site) and the fish is Victorian scrap from CollageStuff. I'm not a big fan of ocean-themes it turns out. I hope Michelle likes them.28 October 2007

4x4 Friday - W is for Wicked

Altered Journal

Altered Journal Spread

I keep trying new things. This is the first time I've ever journaled like this. I hate my handwriting, but I have always admired art journalers who use a whimsical lettering style. This is my very first ever! attempt at journaling like this. I keep saying that so maybe you won't think it's terrible.
Cooking is like art. It should be entered into with abandon, or not at all.
I hope the gal who owns this altered journal, part of a round-robin I'm in, likes it. The cookbook page BG was already done by the journal's owner. I added the pink checkerboard, the journaling and the images. The theme of the book is "A Recipe for Altered Art", so I hope I captured her theme a little.22 October 2007

Think Monday - Think ATC: Friends
I couldn't resist this image for the Think Monday-Think ATC challenge's theme this week (friends). Background is phone book paper. Swirl stamps are from Autumn Leaves. Image is from a free download sheet at Vintage Paint Works.Gothic Arch - Hands

This week's Gothic Arches challenge theme was "hands". My arch is a little more "out there" than most all of the arches that were posted so far. The image is a clip from a Dover Sampler and I colored it in with metallic pens. The text stamp is from Limited Edition RS. The swirly stamp is from Paper Studios.

"Next!"
Left Page
Right PageToday I finished the layout for my friend Sandee's "Sepia & White" altered journal for one of our round-robins. I had started with this vintage wedding theme but then I thought it was sorta boring, so I went in this direction instead. The scans show the right page being darker than the left, but they are the same in "real life". :)

3 Words
3 Words. I'm so behind in this cyberworld. I just learned about "3 Words" this morning while listening to the Bob & Sheri radio show. The premise is to use 3 words to sum up your life right now. The video is amazing. I wept, although I should explain that I cry easily. I can't find a blog dedicated to "3 Words". What an amazing concept to use in art journaling.
I hope you'll watch the video. I promise it will touch your heart. Thanks. Oh-and if you want, can you leave your 3 words in the comments section? No explanation or story needed, just really wanting to know what other people's 3 words are.
Oh--my words?? WORRY TOO MUCH
Doodles!
Doodle practice. Some days I'm so hard on myself and my art. Until just a couple weeks ago, I didn't even think I could doodle. I spend lots of time admiring people's art journal blogs, and their lettering styles, and wish I could do that. I've been spending 20 minutes, every afternoon, doodling. Well, that just started yesterday. I did these doodles on a bank envelope and I didn't hate them. Yay! Maybe when I "grow up" I shall become a professional doodler...practicing 20 minutes at a time.
Twisted Tuesday - Wicked Witch

The Fluffy Fatbottom's Twisted Tuesday Challenge for this week is "Wicked Witch". This is my entry. The image sorta reminds me of Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.
